Access to capital for Icelandic entrepreneurs and start-ups is extremely important throughout their growth process. The way they manage to financing also affects the growth of the Icelandic economy in various ways.
Marorka’s COO, Dr. Bjarki Andrew Brynjarsson, gives a talk about access to foreign capital in Iceland at a conference on the 11th of November 2014, which is an initiative of the Innovation Centre of Iceland and Enterprise Europe Network in Iceland in collaboration with key stakeholders to support environmental innovation in Iceland.
Other speakers include; Michael Culligan – CEO Halo Business Angel Network Ireland (HBAN) and board member of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN), Guðjón Mar Gudjonsson, Director of Oz, Eyrún Eggertsdóttir manager RORO and Kristjan Freyr Kristjánsson – VP of Icelandic business, Meniga.
Marorka was established as a start-up in 2002 based on Ph.D. research conducted by Jon Agust Thorsteinsson at the University of Aalborg, Denmark. Today the company has more than 60 employees who provide energy management systems for bulk carriers, containers, tankers and other types of ship. Dr. Bjarki Andrew has extensive experience in working with growth companies by restructuring and securing financing, designing growth strategies and supporting their execution. Marorka is now working on a growth strategy with the development of offices in Denmark, Singapore and Dubai within the next few months and furthermore looking to establish a precence in South Korea and China in the near future.
