30 Mar '22 Dr. Serena Lim: 40% reduction of carbon intensity by 2030
By Dr. Serena Lim, Chief Scientific Officer at Ascenz, Singapore & UKI am Chief Scientific Officer at Ascenz (Singapore) and Smart Shipping Advisor at GTT (France).
I am currently focusing on digital technologies and solutions for the shipping industry in order to optimise operations and reduce emissions. I spent more than 10 years in studying, doing research and teaching at Newcastle University, UK. My expertise is in offshore engineering, numerical marine hydrodynamics, ship design and data analytics. Prior to joining Ascenz, I was was working as a research associate on Energy Efficient Ships, funded by Innovate UK.
40% reduction by 2030
The Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) is a measure of how efficiently a ship transports goods or passengers and is given in grams of CO2 emitted per cargo-carrying capacity and nautical mile.
The CII is part of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) strategy to drive the reduction of short-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in terms of operations. The CII requirements will be mandated from 2023, aim to actively support IMO’s plan to reduce the international shipping carbon intensity by 40% by 2030.
GTT Digital Online
A clear overview of vessel CII and targets has been developed to promote continuous awareness and monitoring to ensure that all vessels are complying to the rating and to identity vessels that need to improve the CII ratings.
Our solution comes with a long-term time series graph up to 2030 to show the trending of CII for each vessel and provides a clear projected view of CII rating that needs to be attained. This allows active decision making to be made to ensure that the vessel is performing well in terms of operations and carbon emissions.
Our solutions and experts help monitor the compliance and take operational improvement measures. GTT Digital Online provides a platform that enables comprehensive monitoring, compliance and reporting related to environmental impact.
